The bedrooms are simply styled with four poster beds dressed in inviting crisp white cotton bed linen. Each room contains a modern ensuite wet room with shower (one with a bath).
The Villas contain some wonderful antique Dutch and Jaffna furniture. Sit down on the old mahogony desk and bang out that best seller with a Gin and Tonic in hand? The prints on the walls depict a Ceylon of a bygone era.
Five of the six rooms are sea facing and look out onto wonderful views of the Catamarans on the horizon and spectacular sunsets.
All the rooms have air conditioners and fans, though you may find that the ocean breeze suffices.
Flexibility is one of the great advantages of staying at Villa Sunbird. There are two single beds that can be moved for those who don’t want to be in a double bed; cots can be arranged or extra day-beds put into rooms. The ground floor bedroom in Kingfisher has good wheel chair access and is the only wetroom with a bath, which can be helpful with young kids.
As the owners have five children under nine years of age the staff are particularly sensitive to families traveling with children. Should the kids want plain pasta that is fine, while the parents can sit down to a slow roast lamb or devilled lobster.
There is internet access in both Villas. Jacana has a TV/DVD, with a small library of books and films.
